Europa-Park is the largest theme park in Germany, known for their impressive rollercoasters, and themed areas of the world.

When Europa Park set out to create Rulantica, their brand-new water park, they wanted something different—moving away from the typical tropical paradise of palm trees and beaches. Instead, the vision was to create the atmosphere of a European woodland filled with towering artificial pine and overgrown birch trees to immerse visitors in a completely unique setting.

To bring this to life, we worked closely with our trusted engineers, JH Woods, to design and fabricate the internal steel supports needed for the pine trees. Transport and installation were key considerations, so each tree was engineered for both ease of movement and long-term stability.

To achieve the signature tapered shape of a Douglas fir, we used precision-cut fire-retardant polystyrene, shaped with our CAD-driven cutter and fixed to the internal steel framework. To ensure absolute realism, we took moulds from real pine trees, carefully studying their branch structures and distinctive bark colouring to replicate every detail. The scale of the finished project is nothing short of impressive. Some of the trees stand at 12 metres tall, towering over the water park and helping to define different areas while reinforcing the woodland theme.

The time spent studying real trees paid off—the result is so lifelike that it’s difficult to tell them apart from the real thing. Rulantica is a perfect example of how artificial trees can transform a space, and this project is a testament to our team’s ability to take on large-scale, ambitious installations.
